The occupation list, and its traps
Sault Ste. Marie publishes 25 priority occupations. Being on that list is necessary but not sufficient, and the detail below is where most self-prepared applications come apart.
The full list, with the codes and any wage requirements, is published by the community: see the official occupation list. We do not reproduce it here, because it changes mid-year and a stale copy is worse than no copy.
Caps and limits
- Maximum 20 applications per employer
- NOC 75119 Trade Helpers and Labourers capped at 50 per year
- Maximum 2 applications per employer for unlisted Sales and Service occupations
- Community allocation for 2026 is not published

- 9-15 Feb
- 9-15 Mar

Processing
Six weeks once a complete recommendation application is received, though the community has acknowledged a backlog of several months on top of that.
Worth knowing
Recommendation letters are valid for six months and cannot be extended. If the candidate has worked for the employer less than six months, the employer must show recruitment proof and must have posted the role on a local job board and Job Bank for 10 weeks.
