The occupation list, and its traps

Steinbach publishes 25 priority occupations. Being on that list is necessary but not sufficient, and the detail below is where most self-prepared applications come apart.

Steinbach publishes conflicting information on two occupations. Early Childhood Educators (42202) is described in one place as capped at 6 per year with NO SPOTS AVAILABLE, and in two other places as capped at 5 with no such note. Accounting and Related Clerks (14200) is marked not available in one block while remaining on the priority list. Treat both as uncertain and confirm with the office before preparing a file.

The full list, with the codes and any wage requirements, is published by the community: see the official occupation list. We do not reproduce it here, because it changes mid-year and a stale copy is worse than no copy.

Processing

No processing time is published. Recommendation certificates are valid up to six months. The community cites IRCC processing exceeding one year as its reason for excluding visitor-status candidates.

Worth knowing

Seven health and caregiving occupations are exempt from the monthly and annual occupation caps. The designated employer list includes a petrol station, a convenience store and three restaurants even though the same page bars those business types, most likely legacy designations the community has not explained.
