RCIP Sault Ste. Marie 2026: intake status, priority sectors and occupations

What the Sault Ste. Marie Rural Community Immigration Pilot actually requires right now, taken from Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation and re-checked every month. Most guides to this programme are months out of date.

Intake closed · verified 12 October 2026

Closed for 2026. The August window was the final intake of the year.

The employer portal ran 17 to 23 August 2026. On 1 September the community reported another influx of applications and said it would take several months to work through them. No 2027 dates, sectors or allocations have been announced.

Our office is here. Ubuntu Worldwide Immigration Consulting is based in Sault Ste. Marie, inside the pilot boundary. We deal with this community's programme where it is actually administered.

Priority sectors for 2026

  • Health
  • Education, Law and Social, Community and Government Services
  • Business and Finance
  • Trades, Transport and Equipment Operators
  • Manufacturing and Utilities
  • Sales and Services
Changes this year. Effective 1 July 2026 the Natural and Applied Sciences sector was REMOVED and Sales and Services was ADDED. Most published guides still have this the wrong way round.

The occupation list, and its traps

Sault Ste. Marie publishes 25 priority occupations. Being on that list is necessary but not sufficient, and the detail below is where most self-prepared applications come apart.

Sales and Services is active as a sector but has no published occupations yet. Unlisted occupations in that sector may be supported on a limited basis until IRCC caps are reached.

The full list, with the codes and any wage requirements, is published by the community: see the official occupation list. We do not reproduce it here, because it changes mid-year and a stale copy is worse than no copy.

Caps and limits

  • Maximum 20 applications per employer
  • NOC 75119 Trade Helpers and Labourers capped at 50 per year
  • Maximum 2 applications per employer for unlisted Sales and Service occupations
  • Community allocation for 2026 is not published

Who cannot use this programme

  • Fast food establishments
  • Restaurant-based businesses
  • Security companies
  • Any sector outside the six listed above

Intake windows in 2026

  • 9-15 Feb
  • 9-15 Mar
  • 13-19 Apr
  • 11-17 May
  • 17-23 Aug (final)

Processing

Six weeks once a complete recommendation application is received, though the community has acknowledged a backlog of several months on top of that.

Worth knowing

Recommendation letters are valid for six months and cannot be extended. If the candidate has worked for the employer less than six months, the employer must show recruitment proof and must have posted the role on a local job board and Job Bank for 10 weeks.
